Synergy Sense Program Gets Potential Boost - How Mid-South Synergy Members Could Be Benefiting from New Stimulus Money

September 4, 2009 (NAVASOTA, TX) - Mid-South Synergy could soon see extra support in their Synergy Sense initiative, a program that promotes energy conservation. The potential boost comes from new stimulus money being allocated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and promises Electric Coops across the nation millions of dollars for new infrastructure purchases. Mid-South Synergy applied for the grant in early August and could receive up to 5.5 million dollars. If Mid-South receives the grant, the money will help support Synergy Sense projects like the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

“This will be a huge benefit for our members, “says Diane Sechelski, Chief Member Services Officer. “Extra funding for Synergy Sense will assist in the development of technology like AMI. Because Mid-South Synergy is a member owned utility, this potential funding will bring value back to the member.”

The AMI system, just one part of the Synergy Sense program, is going to be a great advantage for members of Mid-South Synergy. With what is called “Smart Grid Technology,” members will actually be able to monitor electric usage from their home. This information allows the member to have more access and control over their bill which studies have shown can reduce energy consumption by 3 to 11 percent.

Because the Synergy Sense initiative is a program that Mid-South has already put in place, the grant money will be a potential bonus to an already great program. “It just made sense to apply for this grant money,” says Sechelski. “Synergy Sense is an effort that already adds value to our members, but with assistance for purchasing technology like AMI, our members get even more.” Mid-South Synergy expects to know the final status of their grant application by the end of this year.
